Friendswood Receives $2 Million
Federal Grant
Friendswood
—
Friendswood’s new alarm permit ordinance began June 15. The
Friendswood City Council approved Ordinance 2008-36, requiring
alarm system permits in Friendswood In October 2008.
Alarm
permits are very useful in providing
Friendswood Police and Fire Department personnel with accurate and
updated contact information and alarm site locations in case of emergencies.
Revenue generated from alarm permit fees and
false alarm fees will be utilized to offset
public safety and software maintenance costs
associated with security alarm response.
The
City's alarm ordinance is also implemented to encourage alarm users and
alarm companies to properly use and maintain alarm systems in order to
improve their reliability and reduce or eliminate false alarms. In
addition, the permits are necessary for maintaining accurate and updated
contact information and alarm site locations.
STATE
Web Site Lets
Shoppers Easily Find
Sales Tax Rates
AUSTIN — Shoppers may now access the
correct sales
tax rate for most any business address
in Texas on a new web site — making the increasingly complex system of
taxing jurisdictions more transparent to shoppers and business owners.
“Two businesses located across the
street from one another may charge different tax rates, leaving customers to
wonder why,” Texas
Comptroller
Susan Combs said. “By entering the business addresses in the
Sales Tax Rate Locator,
customers may discover that the neighboring businesses are located in
different taxing jurisdictions, and they both collect the correct tax.”
In addition to the state sales tax, more than 1,400 cities,
counties, transit systems and special purpose districts impose sales tax on
goods and services, creating an ever-changing patchwork of overlapping
taxing jurisdictions whose boundaries are unfamiliar to the average shopper.
