City of Friendswood Hosts Master Parks Plan Public Forum

City of Friendswood and the Friendswood
Parks and Recreation Board will host a public forum for Friendswood
residents to discuss the City's Master Parks Plan on Tuesday, November 18
from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Friendswood City Council
Chamber, 910 South Friendswood Drive.

of Friendswood Awarded Financial Reporting Achievement
Friendswood
– The
City of Friendswood received
the Certificate of Achievement for
Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government
Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA)
for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). It is the
highest form of recognition in the area of
governmental accounting and financial
reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a
government and its management.

Texas Veterans Leadership Program
DALLAS – Gov. Rick Perry announced the creation of the Texas Veterans
Leadership Program (TVLP), a resource to help veterans returning from Iraq
and Afghanistan assimilate to civilian life in Texas by providing employment
and training services, resources and referrals. Perry said Americans owe the
men and women a debt of gratitude for their brave and selfless service to
the country.

Builder Confidence in Multifamily Market Slips in Third Quarter
WASHINGTON –
Builder
confidence in the multifamily housing market sagged in the third quarter of
2008, pushing both the Multifamily Condo Market Index (MCMI) and the
Multifamily Rental Market Index (MRMI) to their lowest levels since the
National Association of Home Builders
created the indexes in 2003.
Immigrant-Owned Businesses Contribution To The Economy Detailed In New
Report
WASHINGTON – The Office of Advocacy of the U.S.
Small Business Administration released a
report showing immigrant-owned businesses generate approximately 11.6
percent of all business income in the United States. Moreover, immigrants
own 11.2 percent of businesses with $100,000 or more in sales and 10.8
percent of all businesses with employees.
This was
the first research study of immigrant ownership rates and business income.

Social Security Announces 5.8 Percent Benefit
Increase for 2009
The
Social Security Administration recently announced monthly Social Security
and Supplemental Security Income benefits for more than 55 million Americans
will increase 5.8 percent in 2009. The 5.8 percent increase is the
largest since 1982. The 5.8 percent Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) will
begin with benefits that over 50 million Social Security beneficiaries
receive in January 2009. Increased payments to more than 7 million
Supplemental Security Income beneficiaries will begin on December 31.
